Trying to get motivated...

Last January Ken and I got really motivated to lose some weight. We both did well. Ken lost 20 pounds and I lost 25 pounds. However, somewhere around early June we ran out of steam. We both gained back a little over the next 6 months, but not too bad.

This January we thought we would give it another shot. I am having a difficult time getting motivated when I am hoping to get pregnant soon. But I thought I might as well work on it while I can. We just finished the first week of phase one of the South Beach Diet. We both lost 5 and a half pounds. Not too shabby, says I. I am now lower than my low of last year. In fact, I am at my lowest for the last about 4 years. Now I just have to keep it up. I know it will be a long process to get down to where I really want to be (Ken will be there in a few weeks -- ugh!) but I just need to keep heading in the right direction. That is the goal, for now.

Now I just need to find time to work out. Any tips from you busy moms on how to find the time?

I know you'll get many great suggestions, but bottom line is if this is what's important to you right now, then you have to make it a priority in your day. Whether that be waking up before the kids get up or doing it before bed. Or find a time in the day where you can stop everything and work out. While watching the debate jump on the treadmill (if you have one) or lift some hand weights. Go for a walk after dinner. Put yourself first!!

personally I have a REALLY hard time putting myself first. The best time i've found is right after kids have left for school in the morning--I do 20 minutes of toning and then 20-30 minutes on the treadmill.

Still working on that. It depends on the day of the week. on days when I have to be somewhere early, I get up at 6am. On other days I wait til kids are in school. I've decided now I need to step it up a notch. So, I will workout twice a week. Let me be your motivator. You can do it!!!

Good for you on the 5.5 pounds! It's taken me a month to do that! I have been going to the gym around 6:30 in the morning (YUCK!) on the days that Blaine is around in the morning. Even after being up a lot at night with Ez, I am trying to have "NO EXCUSES!" It is hard but I feel so much better during the day! I wish you much success!

Friends!! I am so thankful for wonderful neighbors that are helping to motivate me. Good luck on your goal. I wish I had more dedication!

I am actually finally really good at the whole exercise part of my life. I do 20 minutes cardio every morning and 15 minutes weights/sit-ups. This is usually done once Ethan (15 months) wakes up around 6am. I finish just in time to go wake my 7 year old and get him ready for school/bus.

Now, if I could just tame my terrible habit of eating, eating, and eating some more I will be cured. I think it is South Beach time for me too!

You go Carli. My advice is not to pressure yourself to do too much. You really only need to work out 3 or 4 times a week. (I'm a MWF runner) I usually do it right when the kids go to school so it's done and it helps you feel motivated for the rest of the day.

Carli,
I agree that friends help motivate so much! Or, if you have a gym membership, sometimes it encourages you to go b/c you know you are paying for it. Other than that, I just try to do sit ups or push ups whenever I have a few minutes here and there or if I find myself sitting on the couch (which doesn't happen very often b/c I'm such a busy body.) Good luck! (Hey, maybe we'll be pregnant at the same time!) =)

You can do it. The beginning is always the hardest part, we find excuses to make for ourselves. Codi and I as you know started our journey down the path of getting in better shape last April/May and we stayed at it. If you and Ken are working on it together you can help lift the other up on those days you don't want to do anything. The key is to have a plan in place for what you want to do, dieting alone will not cut it. Stick with and we wish you the best.

You are amazing!
Just being in the exercise frame of mind is a huge step. I just went and signed up at the gym. I do step aerobics on Mon. Wed. and Fri. For me, just having that accountability factor pushes me more than doing it on my own. I don't want to pay for something I'm not going to use. They also have babysitting services there. The step is like dance so I don't even think that I'm exercising. Plus, I have a friend that comes with me.
Love ya!!
